Anyone who follows me on Twitter has probably seen some of my stealth tweets hinting that there was something going on between me and San Diego's NBC 7/39. I can now officially go on the record and talk about what I hope becomes a mutually beneficial relationship.
Starting tomorrow you're going to start seeing me pop up on a semi-regular basis during NBC San Diego's morning news broadcast, which airs from 6am to 7am daily. I've been brought on as a freelance correspondent/reporter, which means I'll be a regular guest in an ongoing segment dedicated to exploring and dissecting what's hot in social media, what people are talking about online, and why it matters.
This is definitely experimental, and a new way to play with breaking stories, as well as highlight web trends that relate to ongoing news stories. My goal is to bring an interesting twist to the morning news and incorporate the San Diego community in the experience.
NBC San Diego is already active on
Twitter and
Facebook, and from time to time we'll shoot out some questions related to segment topics. If you choose to answer them, you're tweets and status updates may become a part of the segment.
I'm excited to join the morning news team, and I'm really looking forward to the live TV experience, which is pretty much a first for me. :)
At some point, I'll post more detailed information on how this all came to be, and maybe highlight some of the bumps and bruises along the way, but for the time being I hope that you'll tune in tomorrow, or set your DVRs, if you're in the area. For the rest of you, I'm hoping we'll be able to post clips to the web.
You stay classy San Diego!
